Resumo. No final de Fevereiro de 1945, o matemático português António Aniceto Monteiro embarca para o Rio de Janeiro contratado pela Faculdade Nacional de Filosofia da Universidade do Brasil dando início a um exílio de mais de trinta anos na América do Sul. Este artigo descreve a sua actividade como antifascista que levou a que fosse perseguido pelas autoridades brasileiras e impedido de regressar ao Brasil quando se exilou na Argentina no final de 1949, onde veio a falecer em 1980. Descreve ainda a perseguição que lhe foi movida, em 1959, quando conseguiu fazer uma visita de poucos meses ao Brasil a convite do Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas.
Abstract. At the end of February 1945, the Portuguese mathematician António Aniceto Monteiro embarked to Rio de Janeiro, hired by the National Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Brazil, starting an exile of more than thirty years in South America. This article describes his activity as an anti-fascist that led him to be persecuted by the Brazilian authorities and prevented him from returning to Brazil, when he went into exile in Argentina at the end of 1949, where he died in 1980. It also describes how he was persecuted in 1959, when he managed to visit Brazil for a few months at the invitation of the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics.
